Oh my gosh THANK YOU for your comment on the bee post. That's much needed information on tumblr. When I came to your blog to send this message, I saw your post about the Catacombs – I also saw it (in a magazine) when I was a kid and was fascinated by it. I also grew up poor and used to read/watch everything I could about far off places because we never went anywhere! It looks amazing 🙂

You’re welcome! I need to make another comment adding the link to this great bee post: https://nanonaturalist.tumblr.com/post/170124467496/alatar-and-pallando-nonegenderwithleftbees

I never traveled as a kid–my first airplane ride anywhere was one I booked myself for my 20th birthday because I WANTED to TRAVEL. I went to a couple far off places between then and last year (New Zealand when I was 22, Grand Cayman when I was 30), but then last November I went to Malawi (with layovers in London and Johannesburg, South Africa), and then THIS year I went to France… It’s pretty surreal. It’s such a shock to my system to travel like that, that none of it feels real to me when I’m there. I always imagined when you traveled that it would FEEL different… I don’t know, like the air has a different texture and gravity is backwards? But then I was in Africa, literally hitting hippos with our boat, elephants pooping outside the cabin at night, and I really didn’t feel any different than I did in Texas, and my brain just can’t process it. Reminds me a little of “Paris syndrome”! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome)
