I have a question about the salt marsh moth that you posted recently. You seem to have a vast knowledge on insects and this question seems like something you would know. Last year on the solar eclipse i found a salt marsh moth that was weak, didn't resist being picked up and had trouble flying. Any idea why?

Hard to know the specifics, but this happens all the time regardless of whether the sun is being blocked by the moon :-). It could have had parasites. It could have had bad genetics. It could have been nearing the end of its life cycle. It could have been knocked out of the sky by a bird or scared out of its hiding spot during the day. So many possibilities, that’s why insects have so many offspring…
