They aren’t usually so picky when they eat their molts. Not a fan of the butt-piece I guess.

Baby almost escaped while I was out choosing the perfect oak branch. I caught him before he got too far, and stopped to perch on this funky oak gall.

I have live oak, but he was on… uh… blackjack oak? Post oak?? After they molt, they are generally more receptive to switching host plants if they’re polyphagous (eat multiple host species), which is one reason I borrowed one who was molting. The other reason was so it wouldn’t escape while I was driving home!
